About NSCS

We are the North Shuswap Childcare Society (NSCS), a society which was formed out of mutual passion to provide the North Shuswap with the essential service of licensed childcare. Our singular goal as a non-profit society is to create high quality early learning and childcare spaces for children from birth through school age. Our intention is that this childcare will be equitable, accessible, and affordable for North Shuswap families.

Our current directors are: Kaytlyn MacDonald (president), Carlie Pellett (Vice President), Kimberly Martin (Treasurer), Karen Horner (secretary), Phyllis Oruclar ( Director), Leith Bentz ( Director).

Childcare creation and licensing is a complicated process involving research and planning, grant writing, financial and legal expertise, building and design, policy writing, and compliance with licensing regulations. We have devoted ourselves to the tasks of understanding what is needed, accessing available resources, and forming necessary partnerships to make this happen. However, we need help from others with the specific skills and the access to resources that we do not have.

If you are interested in learning more, supporting or volunteering, please reach out to us.

Currently there is no licensed childcare available in our community, nor has there been in the last 25 years. Our population is growing significantly and our communities inability to keep essential working contributors is due to the lack of childcare available.
